Most of the times skin tags are harmless and typically painless; they do not grow or change over time. They usually appear under the arms, on the eyelids, along the folds of the neck, and the crotch area. Although they are benign, they may be very unsightly and if one appears under your arm you might hesitate to wear sleeveless tops because you will feel too self-conscious.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is one of the best remedies for skin tags. The acid from apple cider vinegar breaks down the excess skin cells and makes the skin tags fall naturally. Follow this remedy for removing the skin tags: dip a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar, and then apply it on the skin tag. You will feel a stinging sensation for a few minutes, but it will stop soon. Tape the cotton ball into place with medical tape and keep for three or four hours, then wash off with warm water. In order to completely eliminate the tags, you will need to follow this remedy at least three times per day during two or four weeks. Because this remedy is acidic in nature, do not apply it anywhere near the eyes. Also do not forget to make a test to see if your skin does not get irritated before applying the remedy. If your skin is sensitive, dilute the apple cider vinegar with some water.
Garlic can be a very efficient means for removing skin tags. It has antibacterial and antifungal properties, and the enzymes contained in garlic are believed to be able to shrink skin tags in a natural way. However due to its very hot nature, you should be cautious while using it for treatment. Crush a few (3-4) garlic cloves and make a paste. Apply the paste on the skin tags and cover with a bandage. Leave it there overnight. In the morning, wash it with warm water. Repeat the procedure for a few days until the skin tag is removed.
Another way of using garlic to remove skin tags is to take a clove of garlic and cut it into thin slices. Take one slice and apply it on the skin tag; secure it with duct tape. Keep it during the entire day replacing the slice with a fresh one from time to time. Before going to bed, remove it and rinse with water. Repeat the procedure for three days, after which the tag should fall off. If it still remains, repeat the treatment for a few days.
3. Baking Soda
Baking soda is used for many home remedies, so it should not come as a surprise that it can also be used for removing skin tags. Baking soda is a light exfoliant and it helps in removing skin tags. Just apply some baking soda to your skin tag and rub it gently. Repeat it few times a day until it comes off. If your skin is getting irritated by the baking soda, discontinue using it. Typically, this helps remove skin tags in about two weeks, the larger ones may take longer. You can also mix an amount of baking soda with water in order to form a paste. Apply the paste on the skin tag and rub gently. Repeat this several times a day until the skin tag falls off.
You can also combine baking soda with castor oil; mix well until you get a paste. Apply the paste on the skin tag and cover with a bandage. Leave it on overnight. In the morning, wash the skin with warm water. Repeat the treatment until the skin tag disappears. It should be completely gone in approximately two weeks, but you will start to see changes during the first week already.
Aspirin is also effective against skin tags. Most people have aspirin in their homes, so it is quite handy to use as a home remedy for skin tags. Aspirin is efficient due to its active ingredient – salicylic acid, which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Salicylic acid comes from the bark of the willow tree and has been used as a painkiller for over two thousand years. You can use aspirin as a remedy against skin tags in two different ways. You may simply crush an aspirin tablet into powder, apply it on the skin tag you need removed and fix with duct tape. You may also dissolve an aspirin tablet in a quarter cup of water, and then soak a cotton ball in the mixture. Put it on the skin tag and cover with a band-aid. The aspirin mixture will make the skin tag fade and then disappear. Make sure to use actual aspirin for this remedy, substitutes will not get you any results.
5. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is full of citric acid, which allows it to decompose the cells in the skin tag. It dries out the skin tag up to the point when it disappears. Lemon juice is also a very effective antibacterial agent and is also good against acne. Cut a lemon in two and extract the juice. Dip a cotton ball in the juice and apply it on the skin tag, and then allow the juice to dry. Repeat the procedure for several days and the skin tags will fall off. Lemon juice will offer results in just a few days if used daily. But be careful if you have sensitive skin, lemon juice may irritate your skin, so it is always a good idea to try a patch test in order to ensure you can tolerate the acidity. Also, try to avoid exposing the area you treated with lemon juice to sunlight, lemon juice causes photosensitivity and you may get sunburn.
6. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is an essential oil that is very acidic. It is a natural antiseptic, and it protects the skin after the skin tag has been removed. Tea tree oil is used for a variety of skin conditions including oily skin and acne. It is also effective for removing skin tags, with its antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. It dries out the skin and makes the skin tag fall on its own. You can put tee tree oil directly on your skin, but it would be best to make a patch test before using it. In case you have issues with the skin, better dilute it before use.
Take a cotton ball and dip it in water, then squeeze out the excess water. Put three or four drops of tea tree oil on the cotton ball, and then rub it over the skin tag. Leave the oil on for a few hours then wash it off. Repeat the procedure three times a day for a few weeks, until the skin tag disappears.
7. Pineapple Juice
Pineapple juice may be an unusual remedy to use against skin tags, but it contains an acid that removes them in only a couple of weeks. Besides removing skin tags, pineapple juice also reduces inflammation and leaves the skin free of any bacteria. This is possible due to the fact that pineapple juice has a high content of vitamin A and vitamin C. The enzymes from pineapples degenerate the cells and tissues from skin tags and then they fall off on their own.
This is one of the simplest ways to remove skin tags at home. Slice the pineapple into pieces and extract the juice from them. Apply juice on the skin tags rubbing it gently. Do not wash away; let the pineapple juice dry into the skin in order to get maximum effects. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times daily until the skin tag disappears. You will be able to notice visible results in about 10 to 14 days.
8. Banana Peel
Many ignore bananas due to their high-calorie content, but bananas are also full of useful minerals for our health. Not only the bananas have useful nutrients for our health, banana peels also have a high content of minerals. It is a powerful source of potassium which is very helpful in treating and removing skin tags, moles and warts. Banana peel also has strong antioxidant properties.
Take a small piece of banana peel and place it on the skin tag with the inside of the peel touching the tag. Wrap it with a bandage or fix it with duct tape. Keep it on overnight. In the morning discard the peel and wash the area with water. Repeat the procedure every night for a few weeks until the skin tag falls off. It usually takes 10 to 12 days to get the desired results and get rid of the unwanted skin tag.
9. Onion Juice
Although onions are mostly used as a home remedy for hair growth, the topical application of onion juice or onion slices is also useful in removing skin tags. Onion juice is a very effective means to get rid of skin tags. While some people may not be very excited at the prospect of using onions for this due to the way onions smell, it might actually be the most effective remedy to get you rid of the annoying skin tags. The highly acidic nature of onions destroys the cells and tissues of the skin tags making them fall off on their own.
For this remedy, cut an onion into small pieces, add a half teaspoon of salt to it and let sit in a closed container overnight. In the morning, extract the juice from the onion and store it. In the evening, before going to bed, apply the juice on the skin tag and cover with a bandage. The next morning, wash the area with warm water. Repeat this every night for a week or until the skin tag falls off.
10. Nail Varnish
Removing skin tags using nail polish is really ideal if you’re on a tight budget. Certainly this is a nowhere near natural way of removing skin tags, but it is very effective. Some people may not be very fond of this method to remove skin tags, and it actually might not work for all people, but it is a very inexpensively convenient way of removing skin tags.
Before putting nail polish on the skin tag, wash the area properly with a mild soap and warm water. Then pat it dry with a towel, the area must be dry before you apply the polish. Then, paint the skin tag completely, coating it thoroughly. Allow the polish to dry before touching it with clothing or rubbing it. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times a day; this will make the tag to shrink in size and finally disappear.
